UNIUYO Students Donate Blood

The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) in conjunction with the Rotaract Club of UNIUYO is carrying out a 4-day campus-wide blood drive, from 9th-12th November, 2014.

So far, over 120 students have participated in the on-going blood drive. The blood drive is carried out by staff of the NBTS South South Zonal Office from the Armed Forces Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

At the event, both potential and regular blood donors are required to complete a self-exclusion questionnaire each time they wish to donate blood. They also need to undergo a “mini-medical” prior to donating blood, where trained staff check their haemoglobin level and blood pressure and ensure that the donor is healthy and not at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

The commitment, honesty and responsibility of regular blood donors ensure the safety of blood supply. NBTS encourages donors to give blood for purely altruistic reasons - solely for the sake of helping others.
